Hiking Udzungwa Mountains can be done in different routes ranges from few hours to several days. One of the popular trekking route is the route to Sanje waterfalls. The Sanje waterfalls is so gouges with the height of about 180 meters. The routes pass through the tropical rain forest which is the home to different bird species and primates. Some birds which can be spotted at Udzungwa include the Rufous Winged Sunbird and the Southern Seedcracker. The Udzungwa mountains boast some species of diurnal primates such as the endemic Iringa Red Colobus, the Sanje Mangeby and the Kipunji Monkey.

Game viewing in Mikumi national park is thrilling as you are guarantee to see abundant wildlife and the beautiful landscapes. Animals that can frequently observed include lions, elephants, zebra, buffaloes, eland, wildebeest and many other antelope species. If lucky you can also spot the rare African wild dogs.

 

Hiking Udzungwa Mountains Program

 

Day 1: Drive Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park

Pick up from the hotel or airport in Dar es Salaam for a drive to Mikumi National Park for game drive. Dinner and overnight at Camp Bastian.

 

Day 2: Full day Game drive in Mikumi National Park

Breakfast at the Camp, depart for a full day game drive in the park with packed lunch. Enjoy game viewing in different areas of mikumi include the Mkata flood plains.  A big number of game animals tends to congrate in mkata floodplain due its conducive open grass plain environment. In the evening return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 3: Hiking Udzungwa Mountains

Today we will continue to Udzungwa mountains in the Southern Eastern of Mikumi National park. Arrive at the park headquarters for registrations then proceed with the trek. While hiking udzungwa through this trail you will enjoy the beautiful scenery of the mountain and see various species of  primates such as Sanje Crested Mangabey and the Iringa red Colobus. Arrive Sanje waterfalls which is at the altitude of about 180 meters. At this point you will enjoy the panoramic view of the Kilombero Valley while taking your picnic lunch. In the afternoon descend back to the starting point and catch up a vehicle back to Mikumi for Dinner and overnight at Camp Bastian.

 

Day4: Return to Dar es Salaam.
Leisure breakfast; departs for journey back to Dar es Salaam with stopover in Morogoro Town for lunch.
