Lake Tanganyika is the deepest and longest fresh water lake situated in the western border of Tanzania and Congo. Gombe stream activities offered is chimpanzee tracking across the park highland area, bird watching and sport fishing.

Mahale Mountains National Park
Mahale Mountains National Park situated western side of Tanzania along the shores of Lake Tanganyika. The Mahale Mountain is the sanctuary of Chimpanzees in Africa. The mountains range run along the lake shores with the highest peak standing 2462meters high above sea level the Nkungwe peak. Major activities in Mahale are chimpanzee tracking, boat ride, bird watching and sport fishing in lake Tanganyika.
Mahale covers area of 1,613sq km south of Kigoma nestled along the Lake Tanganyika shores. Mahale accessed through charter flight from Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Kigoma while also through railway and road up to Kigoma then boat transfer from Kigoma to Mahale.

Visitor may opt to spend the morning hours conducting the chimpanzee tracking and afternoon relaxing on the shore of the Lake Tanganyika enjoying fishing and snorkeling. Lake Tanganyika is believed to the home to more than 250 species of fish.

How to reach there
Due to the remoteness of the area there till this time Gombe National Park and Mahale Mountains National Park can not accessed by road instead visitors can only reach there by boat or aircraft.
