We start this budget camping safari by taking you to Tarangire national park which lies about 120 kilometers southwest of Arusha and 160 km from the Kilimanjaro International Airport. The Tarangire national park is dotted with giant baobab tree known to live for hundreds of years and even thousands years. This park boat the largest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem. While on game drive you can easily spot herds of up to 300 elephants, the migratory wildebeest zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, and elands which congregate near the shrinking ponds. The rare antelope such as fringe eared Oryx and long necked gerenuk are also present in this park.
Budget camping Safari in Ngorongoro
After a day game viewing in Tarangire we will continue with the budget camping safari in Ngorongoro crater one of the eighth wonders of the world. The ngorongoro crater is the world largest unbroken caldera with 20 kilometers diameter and depth of 600 meters. The crater boast about 25,000 large mammals include the black rhinoceros, the African buffalo, wildebeest, Zebra, eland, Grant gazelles, Thompson gazelles and more. The crater is also boast a large population of predators like lions, hyenas and cheetah. It is quite obvious to see lions and hyena scramble over a carcas during game drive. A variety of bird species are also present in the ngorongoro crater. Large flocks of flamingoes can observed coloring the lake magadi in the crater. After a long day game drive in the crater we then ascend to the crater rim where we spend a night in the camp.
The Last day of this unique budget camping safari is spent in Lake Manyara national park which is located at the floor of the Great Rift Valley. The spectacular feature of this park is the Rift valley escarpment, the green forest to the north, grass land and the lake. This park is famously known for its tree climbing lions which if luck you might see them while on game drive. The southern part of the park reveals ongoing active geological activities of the area through several hots springs.
Tanzania Budget Camping Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Pick up from the hotel in Arusha at 0800hrs for the journey to Tarangire National Park which is our first destination. Upon the arrival at Tarangire proceed with the game drive along the banks of the Tarangire River. During dry season most animal tends to congregate along the river banks searching for green pastures and fresh water. Predators such as lions and hyenas also tends to be in the same areas following their prey. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.
Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater Safari
Early breakfast at the camp and depart to Ngorongoro Conservation area for a game viewing in the Norongoro Crater. Ngorongoro crater is the intact caldera which support the lives of thousands of animals and bird life. Different from other parks, you may easily spot hyena scavenging with lions over a carcass and in most cases hyenas tends to win the game. Picnic lunch on the Ngorongoro Crater floor, dinner and overnight at the campsite in Karatu or Mto wa mbu area.
Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park Safari
Today we finish up our Tanzania budget camping budget safari by doing game watching in lake Manyara National Park. The Lake Manyara is perched on the floor of the Great Rift Valley and offers habitats to several animals species and birds. While in Lake Manyara you can easily spot tens of hippo pools, elephants, and several hundred bird species. Picnic Lunch in any of the picnic sites within the park, then at 1600 hrs depart for Arusha for overnight. In the following day, we will offer you a transfer to the airport for your onward flight to other destination.
