Tanzania Safari Itinerary

 

Day 1: Arusha – Lake Manyara

Travelling time: 2½ hours

Distance: 130 km

Pick up from an agreed point in Arusha and transfer to Lake Manyara national park where you will arrive the time for lunch. Afternoon after lunch drive into Lake Manyara National Park for afternoon game drive. This national park is one of Tanzania’s most diverse wildlife areas with an area of about 329 km2 where 231 km2 is covered by the shallow soda lake of Manyara. The park’s diverse environment attracts a wide variety of animals, including elephants and the elusive tree climbing lion. The presence of blue green algae in the soda lake attracts large flocks of flamingos.

Day 2: Lake Manyara – Serengeti Plains

Travel time: 6 hours

Distance: 205 km

After breakfast drive towards Serengeti National Park, via the beautiful upper and lower lands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.  Arrive Serengeti National park and continue with game drives in its endless plains rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. Proceed to Seronera the central Serengeti area which is richest in wildlife habitats and featuring the Seronera River which provides a permanent source of water to the area. The presence of the river attracts a huge variety of animals which at large represent all the species found the Serengeti. Arrive for lunch and after lunch continue with the afternoon game drive till evening when you will drive back to the camp. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Heritage Camp.

 

Day 3:  Game viewing in the Serengeti Plains

Today you early morning you will opt to go for game drive or float in a Hot Air Balloon which will be offered on extra cost. Floating above the untouched African bush, spotting wildlife while enjoying the amazing scenery of Africa, across rivers and over numerous small villages.

After the Balloon Safari you will go for breakfast which followed by game drive along the Sogore River Circuit, which rounds into the plains south of the Seronera River. This is the best place where you will have a high possibility to see Lion, Thomson gazelle, topi, ostrich and cheetah sightings. You will also visit the Visitor Centre close to the Serengeti Seronera Lodge and public campsites. This nicely designed centre offers some interesting wildlife displays as well as a gift shop selling information leaflets and maps of the area. The centre also has a shop where cold drinks and snacks can be purchased, as well as a picnic area and information trail up and around a nearby kopje. We will enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch at the centre in the shade of the giant acacia trees.

In the afternoon we will follow the Kopjes Circuit, which goes anti-clockwise around the Maasai Kopjes, which usually attract a number of lion and some formidably large cobras. Kopjes are weathered granite outcrops, scattered around the plains, most of which are miniature ecosystems, providing shade and drinking water in pools left in the rock after the rains. This makes the kopjes particularly good for spotting wildlife in the dry seasons – including lions, which like to lie in wait for animals coming to drink!

Dinner and overnight in the Seronera area, as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested.

 

Day 4: Serengeti Plains – Ngorongoro crater

Non game-viewing travel time: 4 hours

Distance: 145 km

After breakfast at the lodge do we depart to Ngorongoro Conservation area. We will stopover at Olduvai Gorge, boasting with a history dating back to the dawn of time. It was here, that the anthropologists Drs. Lois and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of ‘Nutcracker Man’ and ‘Handy Man’, both very significant links in the chain of human evolution.

We arrive in time for lunch at the lodge and after lunch we will descend over 600 meters into the crater to view wildlife for a half day’s safari tour. Supported by a year round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro National Park supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park, is it’s dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. We will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos and other water birds can usually been seen here.

Day 5: Ngorongoro crater – Arusha

Travel Time: 4 hours

Distance: 190 km

Enjoy breakfast, after which we will transfer back to Arusha. Upon arrival in Arusha will we have lunch and then we will end our African safari adventure. The group should tip the guide around $20 a day. You will be taken to your hotel, which ends our safari services.

It is possible to have an additional half day game drive at Ngorongoro conservation area if you are not restricted to an early departure time from Arusha, please note additional cost will apply.

African Safari Serengeti Overview

African Safari Serengeti; African Safari in Serengeti National park the world renown wildlife sanctuary with natural beauty full of fauna and flora. Serengeti national park derives it name from the maasai language which means an endless plains shares its ecosystem with the Ngorongoro crater and the Maasai mara game reserve. This park has a combination of diverse habitats which enables it to support more than 30 species of large herbivores and about 500 species of birds.

Serengeti national park has the highest concentration of plain African animals include the large herds of the wildebeest migration which involve over 2 million wildebeest, half a million Thompson gazelles, and a quarter of a million zebra. These animals are moving across the Serengeti plains and the Maasai mara game reserve in search of green pasture and fresh water.

Game viewing in Serengeti is so spectacular, spotting predators chasing their prey and kill for their dinner. Some times you may spot hyenas scramble on a carcass with lions and vultures.

 

 

African Safari Serengeti Itinerary

 

Day 1: Safari to Lake Manyara
Pick up from your hotel in Arusha town at 0800 hrs for the journey to Serengeti National Park with packed lunch. Stop at Olduvai Gorge for a few hours tour of the Gorge. Proceed to Serengeti Ndutu Area where you will proceed with evening game drive. Dinner and overnight Ndutu Lodge.

 

Day 2: Full Day Game viewing in Serengeti
Breakfast in the lodge proceed with the Serengeti Migration Safari enjoying game drive in the Serengeti plains spotting large herds of the wildebeest and other mammals roaming. You can also see different predators such as lions, leopard and cheetah. Normally the wildebeest Migrations are in the southern Serengeti Plains from late November to March of each year.
Dinner and overnight Ndutu Lodge

 

Day 3: Serengeti Migration safari
Leave for the sunrise game drive then back to the lodge at 10:30 for brunch and depart to Arusha with packed lunch.

Ol donyo Lengai Climbing Itinerary

 

Day 1: Arusha – Ngorongoro crater
Pick up from the Hotel in Arusha for a journey to Ngorongoro through the edge of rift valley where you will have fantastic view of Lake Manyara and proceed to Ngorongoro for dinner and overnight simba campsite.

 

Day 2: Ngorongoro to Nainokanoka
Breakfast, drive into the Ngorongoro crater for a full day game viewing with well packed lunch boxes. After lunch drive out of the crater to Nainokanoka village where we will establish our camp for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 3: Nainokanoka to Embulbul
Start today the Ol donyo Lengai Trek program with a walking safari from Nainokanoka to Bulati via Olmoti crater. Visit the Munge falls which is source of water which flow to Ngorongoro crater. Dinner and overnight at Bulati campsite 7 to 8 hours of walking

 

Day 4: Embulbul to Pembe ya Swala
Early morning after breakfast start walking to Embakai crater visit the crater and then proceed to village of Naiyobi. Ahead to Pembe ya swala at yellow fever tree camp the trip takes about 6 to 8 hrs of walking.

 

Day 5: Naiyobi to Ngaresero
After breakfast keep walking and descend to rift valley and walking to Ngaresero river camp for dinner and overnight stay at Kamakia campsite.

 

Day 6: Climb Ol donyo Lengai, Visit Lake Natron
After breakfast visit the waterfalls and lunch at the campsite afternoon visit Lake Natron. Midnight time when you will drive to the bottom of Ol donyo Lengai for climbing.

 

Day 7: Ol donyo Lengai to Arusha
Around midday after lunch at Kamakia Camp we will drive back to Arusha via Engaruka Channel.

Our accommodations are at Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp situated on the shores of Lake Eyasi, with sweeping views toward the Rift.

Day 3: Lake Eyasi Hadzabe Cultural Tour
Very early morning drive to the dwellings of the famous Hadzabe tribe in the bush for cultural interaction. Join the Hadzabe tribe and go to forage, and during the course of day eat while foraging, and also bring back some honey, fruit, or wild game when available. Get an opportunity to walk with them in their home land of Lake Eyasi and watch the way they hunt or collect honey and insects. Dinner and overnight Kisima Ngeda Camp

Day 4: Drive back to Arusha
After farewell to the village tribesmen; Return back to Arusha visiting Makuyuni/Mto wa Mbu.

Mount Meru Climb Overviews

Mount Meru climb; Climb the second tallest mountain in Tanzania after Mount Kilimanjaro with the height of 4, 568 meters above sea level. The Meru Mountain is located within Arusha National Park and it is the dormant volcanic mountain. During climbing Meru Mountain Climbers’ have to walk across the Arusha National Park where they can see different wildlife and birds that inhabit the area. The trek is quite sheer, the route to the summit passes over streams, through parkland, montane forest, a giant heather zone and moorland. The Meru Mountain summit is reached by a narrow, barren ridge, which provides stunning views of the Ash Cone lying several thousand feet below in the crater. Weather permitting, Kilimanjaro can be seen in the West. There are two huts available to climbers on the mountain and firewood is supplied.

The best time to climb Meru Mountain is between October and February but one can climb in June to September although it will be colder season.

Mount Meru climbing itinerary

Day 1: Mount Meru Climb: Arusha to Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m)
Depart from your hotel in the morning for Momella Gate of Arusha National Park (1,500 m.). After park entrance formalities, we begin our hike, guided by a park ranger. The track passes open grassland, providing an opportunity to see buffalo, warthogs and other grazers. The trail continues as a steady climb through montane forest. We take lunch near a giant Fig Tree arch. After lunch, the route continues through less dense forest, where there are an abundance of birds and black and white colobus monkeys.
By mid-afternoon, we can see towering cliffs and the Ash Cone. We reach Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m.), situated in an idyllic grassy glade, in time to enjoy the last of the afternoon sun and beautiful views over the surrounding plains towards Kilimanjaro. (4-6 hours walking). Overnight at Miriakamba Hut. All meals included.

Day 2: Mount Meru Climb: Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m) to Saddle Hut (3,570 m)
The walk from Miriakamba Hut to the saddle below Little Meru is a short day but a steep climb. We slowly ascend through lush montane forest to reach the halfway point of Elephant Ridge. From here we enjoy excellent views of the summit ridge and across the crater floor. The path continues through giant heather and other fascinating moorland vegetation to reach Saddle Hut (3,570 m), where lunch is will be provided. The afternoon is free to relax and to enjoy the views. The more energetic can make the short climb to the nearby summit of Little Meru Mountain (3,820 m) for superb views just before sunset. (3-5 hours walking). Overnight at Saddle Hut with all meals included.

Day 3: Mount Meru Climb: Saddle Hut (3,570 m) to Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m)
We start early at around 2 a.m. to climb steeply to Rhino Point (3,800 m.), continuing along an undulating ridge of ash and rock to reach Cobra Point (4,350 m) at sunrise. The views are stunning: the cliffs of the Crater rim, the Ash Cone rising from the Crater floor, Kilimanjaro floating on the morning clouds and west towards the Rift Valley if the weather is clear. The summit of Socialist Peak (4,566 m.) is an hour further on a good but steep path. The route back to Rhino Point in the morning light, on a narrow ridge between the sloping outer wall of the crater and the sheer cliffs of the inner wall, is one of the most dramatic and exhilarating walks in Africa. We enjoy a rest and brunch at Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m, 10-12 hours walking).
Miriakamba Hut Note: The ridge between the summit and Rhino Point is not suitable for those suffering from vertigo. In icy conditions or in strong winds, it may be impossible for anyone to progress beyond Rhino Point. Overnight at Miriakamba Hut with all meals included.

Day 4: Mount Meru Climb: Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m) – hotel in Arusha
We take the direct route down through open grassland and mixed forest, with good chances of seeing wildlife. This trail has excellent views back towards the crater and over the plains of the National Park. We should reach Momella Gate by late morning (2-3 hours walking). Once you reach the end of the climb you will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight at an Arusha hotel on Bed and breakfast basis

Early morning breakfast and depart to Ngorongoro Conservation Area for a full day ngorongoro crater tour. Enjoy the magnificent view of the crater and its wildlife. Picnic lunch on the crater floor. Afternoon drive out back to Mto wa Mbu area for Dinner and overnight at Twiga Campsite.

Day 4: Kondoa Irangi
Depart Lake Manyara area for Kondoa Irangi at 8:00 am with as short stop for lunch at Babati town. Arrive Kondoa in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight at New Geneva Hotel / Dudu rest house.

Day 5: Kondoa Irangi cave paintings Tour
Breakfast in your hotel then leave for Mangoni cave painting sites at 09:00 am, either picnic lunch or hot Lunch, at 14:30hrs start again for Pahi sites.
Dinner and overnight New Geneva hotel/ Dudu rest house.

Day 6: Kondoa Irangi Tour
Depart for cave paintings at Thawi sites at 09:00 am, hot lunch at 14:30hrs continue to Kandaga cave paintings sites.

Day 7: Kondoa Irangi -Arusha
Leave Kondoa to Arusha via Babati town where you will stop for lunch. After lunch proceed with the journey to Arusha where you will be dropped at the hotel or airport for your flight back home.
