Selous Game Reserve Safari Itinerary

 

Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Selous Game Reserve.

Departs Dar es Salaam at 06:00 am for the journey to Selous Game Reserve. Our driver guide will pick you up from your hotel, airport or resident house for this beautiful journey which is the beginning of your bush adventure in one of the African largest game protected area home to a huge number of mammals, reptiles and birds. Check in at Selous Kinga Lodge, which is perched on the edge of the mighty Rufiji River. The lodge Cottages are beautifully designed and furnished in a romantic contemporary African style. Each comes equipped with en-suite facilities, two private bathroom, a lounge and a spacious bedroom area. Afternoon departs for a 3 hours boat excursion in the great Rufiji River which is one of the highlights of the Selous Safari. The boat safari is the best option to explore the beautiful scenery of the meandering Rufiji River with its famed hippos, crocodiles and beautiful birdlife. In addition to that you will also enjoy the sunset right from the boat which is an amazing experience. After the boat safari you will return back to Selous Kinga Lodge for hot shower, campfire, dinner and overnight.

Day 2 & 3: Full Day Selous Game Reserve Safari

Spend the second and third day of your Selous Safari to conduct the classic  game drives in flood plains located in the northern side of the Rufiji River. The area is also features the attractive oxbow lakes such the Lake Manze, Lake Tagalala, Nzerakera and Siwandu which are the home to a wide array of game include residence crocodiles and hippos .  During the game drives one might be lucky enough to see a pack of African Wild Dog even though becoming extinct in most parts of Africa, they are thriving in the Selous. Just bear in mind that the Selous Game Reserve is larger than Switzerland and Denmark and has the largest population of elephant in Tanzania as well as large number of buffalos, hippos and wild dogs. To be seen also are an array of lions, elands, bushbuck, giraffes, impalas, baboons, zebras, crocodiles and greater kudus, just to name but a few. Also it might be your lucky day to spot the rare sable antelope.

Day 4: Walking Safari – Drive back to Dar es Salaam

The walking safari starts as early as 06.30am. The crispy fresh African air mixed with the wild waft of the animals evokes your sense of smell to the intoxication unique bush odors of Africa. This allows you to get a real feel of the African bush. The sights, sounds and smells of a walking safari are a special treat that will live a long in your memory. The thrill of being close up to the animals and to “shoot” them with your camera is one of the greatest unforgettable experiences one carries back to the “civilized” world. Thereafter back to the Butembo Lodge for breakfast before departing for the journey to Dar es Salaam
