Lalibela Rock Churches

Lalibela rock churches tour is an authentic historical tour to Lalibela town the home to the group of rock curved churches in the northern Ethiopia and the center for pilgrim in the country.  The churches were not constructed in a traditional way but rather were hewn from the living rock of monolithic blocks. These blocks were further chiseled out, forming doors, windows, columns, various floors, roofs etc. The population of Lalibela is dominated by the Ethiopian Orthodox Christians.

Day 1: Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela

Start the tour early in the morning by visiting the eleven rock-hewn monolithic (carved from a single rock) which is now the UNESCO World heritage site, with magnificent architecture & paintings inside the churches. The local guide will briefly explain about the history of the churches and walk you around to see all the beautiful architecture. In the evening drive back to the hotel for dinner and overnight Panoramic View Hotel.

 

Day 2: Lalibela Rock-hewn Churches

Right after breakfast, an early morning drive will take you to historical churches around Lalibela like the Hill Church of Asheton Mariam (on the back of a mule or on foot), Yimerhane Kirsotos, Nakute LeAb or Genete Maryam. Overnight stay in Panoramic View Hotel, Lalibela.

 

Day 3: Flight back to Addis Ababa and departure

After a relaxed breakfast, a drive to the Lalibela airport for the local flight back to Addis Ababa which will arrive in the midday. You may spend the remaining afternoon hour do some shopping for souvenirs in Addis.

Farewell dinner at Ethiopian Traditional cultural restaurant where you will enjoy the life night with music and dances. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
