The Selous Game Reserve covering the area of 54,600 square kilometers and it is the largest game protected area in Africa. The reserve is still virgin and natural with no any permanent human settlement and permanent structures built within it. Furthermore the Selous game reserve is under the Tanzania Wildlife Division who control all the entry and the exit to the park.
Selous game reserve derived its name from the hunter, explorer and naturalist Frederic Courtney Selous was killed during the World War 1. This reserve is famous for hosting the largest population of elephants in the continent as well as the endangered species of wild dogs. Other animals which are commonly seen are lions, wild dogs, buffaloes, bushbuck, impalas, elands, baboons, zebras and greater kudus.
Game viewing activities in Selous is done on the northern side of the Rufiji flood plains which is the home to array of game animals.

Selous Camping Safari Detail Itinerary
Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Selous Game Reserve
Early morning leave Dar es Salaam for journey of about 5 hours to Selous game reserves via Kibiti Lindi. Arrive Selous for check in, lunch and short rest at the Lodge. Afternoon start your selous camping safari by embarking into the boat safari along the might Rufiji River. During the boat safari you will be able to spot some marine animals and birds at close vicinity. . Dinner and overnight at Selous Butembo Camp
Day 2: Full day Selous Camping Safari
Continue to enjoy your African safari travel in selous game reserves by conducting a full day game drive in varies areas of the park. The Selous Game Reserve host different species of wild animals inclusive of the rare seen African Hunting dogs, the largest population of elephants, lions and leopard among others. Dinner and overnight at Selous Butembo Camp.
Day 3: Selous – Dar es Salaam
Early morning go for a sunrise game drive and back to the camp at 1000hr. While at the camp pack your luggage and depart to Dar es Salaam with stop over at Kibiti Lindi for hot Lunch. Drop off at Dar es Salaam airport for your onward flight back home to another destinations. End of safari.
