2 Days Mikumi Budget Safari
Mikumi Budget Safari is a 2 days safari which offers travelers a chance to explore one of the game rich sanctuary and the closest park to Dar es Salaam “the Mikumi National Park”. This park is located about 303 km or 5 hours drive from Dar es Salaam which makes it ideal destination for weekend break. While on Mikumi Safari you will explore an area of about 3,230 square kilometers which shares ecosystem with Selous game reserves. The sharing of ecosystem allows animals to freely migrate between the two parks in deferent season of the year.
The game viewing during Mikumi safari is best done in the northern west part of the park known as “Mkata flood plains”. The Mkata plains are compared to the Serengeti plains due to the significant numbers of animals present. The Mkata plains are surrounded from north by gently rolling hills covered by miombo woodlands. This northern part is the best for hiking during the tour.
Although Mikumi is well accessible by road from Dar es Salaam but it is not famous as the northern Tanzania parks. Till today there are few number of tourists go on Mikumi Safari despites of the fact that the park has abundant wildlife which visitors are guarantee to see. However game viewing in Mikumi begins a few minutes from the park entrance gate where visitors will see a variety of animals includes the hippos and antelopes.

Mikumi Budget Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Dar es Salaam – Mikumi National Park
Today we depart Dar es Salaam at 06:00 am for the budget safari in Mikumi via chalinze and Morogoro town where we will stop for breakfast. After breakfast we will continue with the journey to Mikumi and arrive for lunch at Mikumi Rest House. The distance from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park is about 303 km which takes about 4 to 5 hours drive. Afternoon game drives in Mikumi National Park till evening. The Mikumi National park hosts a wide range of wildlife such as all the big game with exceptional of the rhinos. Common animals which we will see on game drives during the Mikumi safari includes large herds of Elephants, Buffaloes, Zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, Leopards, Lions, Sable Antelopes, Great Kudu, and many more. The chances of seeing tree climbing lions in Mikumi national park are higher than in the famous tree climbing lions home that is Lake Manyara national park.
Day 2: Mikumi National Park – Dar es Salaam
Today after breakfast we continue with our Mikumi Budget Safari by conducting game drives throughout the Mkata flood plains and Chamgore which is known for having largest number of game animals. The Chamgore is also known for having large number of pythons. In the mid-day we drive back to the lodge for hot lunch which followed by a departure to Dar es Salaam.
