Lake Eyasi Safari Program

Day 1-2: The Untamed Beauty of Lake Eyasi

The Cultural Melting Pot

Your journey begins with a drive to Lake Eyasi, a seasonal shallow salt lake on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. The area is home to the Hadzabe tribe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer communities in Africa. As you arrive, you are greeted by the vast openness and serenity of the landscape.

Living Like the Locals

On the second day, rise early and join the Hadzabe in their daily hunt. This is an authentic cultural experience where you learn their traditional hunting methods and witness their incredible archery skills. The Hadzabe are not just hunters; they are also gatherers, and you’ll have the chance to forage for tubers, honey, and fruits with the women of the tribe. This immersion into their lifestyle is an eye-opening experience that gives a deeper understanding of human resilience and harmony with nature.

Day 3-5: The Legendary Plains of the Serengeti

The Endless Savanna

Leaving Lake Eyasi behind, you’ll venture towards the endless savanna of the Serengeti National Park. Known for its vast and open grasslands, the Serengeti is the epitome of the African safari experience. Here, the “Big Five” roam the plains, and you’re in for the thrill of a lifetime.

The Great Migration

Depending on the time of year, you may witness the Great Migration, an annual movement of millions of wildebeest and zebras in search of water and fresh grazing. It’s a spectacle that is matched by few other natural events on the planet. Watching the herds traverse the landscape with predators lurking close by is a lesson in the rawness and reality of life in the wild.

Safari Under the Stars

As night falls, enjoy the unique experience of camping under the African sky. The sounds of the wild become your lullaby, while the stars shine with an intensity only seen in places untouched by city lights. A campfire dinner and storytelling with your guides round off the perfect day on safari.

Day 6-7: The Breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater

A World Heritage Site

The next leg of your safari takes you to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Driving up to the crater rim, you are presented with a view that’s nothing short of majestic. The world’s largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including the endangered black rhino.

A Microcosm of African Wildlife

Descend into the crater and find yourself in a natural enclosure teeming with animals. The high concentration of wildlife in the Ngorongoro Crater makes it one of the best places for game viewing. Here, the lions are king, and you may spot them lounging in the sun or hunting. The crater, often referred to as ‘Africa’s Garden of Eden,’ is also a paradise for bird watchers with over 500 species recorded.

Maasai Encounters

In the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Maasai people continue their traditional way of life alongside the wildlife. A visit to a Maasai boma (village) allows for cultural exchange and the opportunity to learn about their customs, dances, and songs. The Maasai’s symbiotic relationship with the environment is a testament to the balance that can exist between humans and nature.

Day 8: Reflections and Farewells

Sunrise Over the Crater

On the final day, wake up early for a sunrise that will etch itself in your memories forever. As you watch the first rays of light touch the crater floor, it’s a moment to reflect on the journey that has been. The experiences shared with the wildlife, the landscapes that have stretched out before you, and the people you’ve met along the way have all contributed to a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

Homeward Bound

After a leisurely breakfast, it’s time to pack up and say goodbye to the Ngorongoro Crater. The drive back to civilization is filled with recollections of the past week’s adventures.
