The safari begins by driving to Tarangire National park which is located about 120 km southwest of Arusha town. This park is among best destination for camping safari in Tanzania due to its accessible location and presence of large number of game animals and birds species which are recorded to be over 500. The main attraction of this park are the large herds of elephants, gigantic baobabs and the Tarangire river which flows across the park and acts as the main source of water to thousands of animals. When on game drive during this Tanzania camping safari particularly in dry season you will see herds of animals move down and up from the river for drinking. Predators such as lions, hyenas, leopards, cheetah can also spotted following the herds.

The next segment of this Tanzania camping safari is the Serengeti national park. Here is where you will witness the great migration of the wildebeest which comprises of over 1.5 million mammals. The Serengeti is also known for having the largest population of lion which cin large number are found in Seronera plains the central part of the park. Game viewing experience in this vast savannah plains is quite unique as it filled up of hundreds of animals species. A part from ordinary game drives, you can also enjoy your Tanzania camping safari by  viewing animals from the sky on hot air balloon.

From Serengeti you will continue with your Tanzania camping safari to Ngorongoro crater which famously known as the eighth natural wonders of the world. The crater is home to significant number of game animals include all the legendary BIG FIVE (elephants, rhinos, buffaloes, lions and leopards).

While on the 5 days Tanzania camping safari you may opt to go on private, or budget camping where you will share transport with other tourist. Please let us know you preference and we will arrange the accordingly.

5 days Tanzania Camping Safari Itinerary

 

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Today at 07:30 am we depart Arusha for Tarangire national park where you spend the whole day on game drives. In the mid-day you will enjoy the picnic lunch in one the public campsite located within the park.  Most game drives on this camping safari is conducted along the Tarangire River where herds of animals tend to congregate. Here you will sport a varied species of animals such giraffe, elephants, wildebeest, zebra, lions, antelopes and many others. In addition to that you will also enjoy the spectacular scenery of the park which is dotted with huge baobab trees. After a full day of game drives we will drive to the tented camp or the campsite where you will enjoy your dinner and spend the night.

 

Day 2:  Tarangire National Park to Serengeti National Park

The second day of your 5 days Tanzania Camping Safari will involve a transfer from Tarangire to Serengeti National Park and game drives in Serengeti plains. The Serengeti park specifically Seronera plains the central part of the park is well known for having the largest population predators such as lions, cheetah and hyenas. It is also the best place to sport the shy leopards. While conducting game drives you can easily spot these predators stalking, chasing or even killing their prey. From November to September the herds of migration used to move around different location in Serengeti where from April to mid June they are in Central plains. Game viewing experience during the migration is quite phenomena. In the late afternoon we will drive to campsite or the camp where you spend a night.

 

Day 3: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater

Breakfast in the camp and continue with the game drives exploring the beauty and wildlife of Serengeti National park. Your driver guide will help you to locate more herds of migration and other animals. In the mid – day back to the camp for hot lunch and after will continue our camping safari to Ngorongoro crater via the Olduvai Gorge Museum. The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact caldera formed several millions years ago. It is a home to various species of animals including the legendary game animals the BIG FIVE (Elephants, leopards, Lions, Rhinos and Buffaloes) among others. Dinner and overnight at Camp or Simba Campsite.

 

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater Tour

Breakfast and continue with the fourth day of our Tanzania Camping Safari to explore the Ngorongoro Crater. The crater is home to an abundant wildlife and bird species. According to the recent animal sensor it revealed that the Ngorongoro crater has the highest concentration of animals per square kilometer than any other park. The highest number of predators such as lion and hyena is among the attraction of the park as they can often spotted scramble on carcasses. Picnic lunch will be serves inside the crater in one of the public picnic site. After enjoying the lunch we will continue with short game drive then ascend the crater rim back to the camp and to Karatu area for dinner and overnight at the camp or campsite.

 

Day 5: Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

Today we will head for Lake Manyara National Park, for a morning game drive. Lunch will be served at a picnic site after you enter the park and catch your first glimpses of the wildlife and spectacular scenery. After lunch, make your way through the park snapping photos of all the wildlife that call this area home, with the lake serving as a spectacular backdrop. After a full afternoon of game drives, head back to Arusha in the evening.

6 Days Camping safari to Tarangire national Park, Lake Natron, Serengeti plains and Ngorongoro Crater where you will enjoy the thrilling wildlife and remarkable landscapes. This affordable camping safari in Tanzania can be combined with Kilimanjaro climbing or beach holiday in Zanzibar at a reasonable price. Apart from visiting National Parks, Game Reserves, Open areas in wild Africa this camping safari adventure trip will also take you to the remote areas to meet with the Locals and experience their culture and norms.

The first day of this camping safari will visit Tarangire National Park locate about 150 kilometer south west of Arusha town. This beautiful park shares the ecosystem with its neighbor Lake Manyara National Park. The interesting things that you are going to see in Tarangire during this camping safari are the largest herds of elephants, gigantic baobab trees and the Tarangire River which park named after it. Most game drives in Tarangire Park are done along the banks of the Tarangire River where animals tend to congregate during the dry season. After exploring this park you will proceeds with your camping safari to Lake Natron the shallow soda lake to see thousands of flamingo birds.  While in Lake Natron you will also get a chance to visit the local maasai people for cultural experience. After a day in Lake Natron area your camping safari will take you to the vast Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti Park is the most famous park in the world and the oldest in Tanzania. The park boasts the largest number of predators such as lions, leopards, cheetah, hyenas and crocodiles. During your camping safari in Serengeti you will enjoy to see all these predators. In addition to that you will also see varied species of resident animals and the herds of the migration animals which comprises of over 1.5million beasts.

After spending two days of this budget camping safari enjoying the magic of Serengeti park you will then drive to Ngorongoro conservation area. The Ngorongoro conservation Area is the home to the Olduvai Gorge and the Ngorongoro Crater which is main attraction of the area. In the crater you will be awarded with the greatest chance to see all the members of the legendary game animals “BIG FIVE” such as lion, leopard, elephants, buffaloes and rhinos.

6 Days Camping Safari Itinerary

 

Day 1:  Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After a short briefing in the morning, you will start your 6 days camping safari by heading to the Tarangire National Park. The Tarangire national park features the savannah grassland dotted with acacia trees, giants baobab trees, seasonal swamps and lagoons which inhibited by huge elephant herds. During dry season the animals gather at the only source of water the Tarangire River its tributaries.  While on game drive you should see a selection of mammals ranging from giraffes, bushbucks and hartebeests to the weird-looking gerenuk and fringe-eared oryx. The park is also home to wildebeest, buffaloes and zebras which are always closely followed by a range of predators such as lions and hyenas. Leopards are seen now and then but cheetahs are rarely spotted. From the open roof of the safari vehicle you will be able to absorb the landscape and watch the animals. In the late afternoon you will arrive at a campsite inside the park, where you will spend the night in a tent.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park to Lake Natron

After breakfast, continue with your 6 days camping safari to the multicultural village of Mto wa Mbu then afterward to Ngaresero village in Lake Nataron. The Ngaresero village is an Oasis in the hot hot and dusty Rift Valley. Along the journey you will pass through the eastern escarpment of the rift valley to Engaruka ruins and the Ol doinyo Lengai volcano. The Ol Doinyo Lengai is a Maasai name meaning “The Mountain of God“. The maasai people gave the name to this mountain after seeing the fire on the mountain during the volcanic eruption. This reminds us of the biblical story of Moses who met God as fire on Mountain Sinai. Just from the camp you will see a pink glow from thousands of flamingos breeding and feeding on the algae of the alkaline Lake Natron. In the afternoon you will join a Maasai guide on a walk to a nearby waterfall before you return to the campsite for your overnight.

Day 3: Lake Natron to Serengeti National Park

After an early breakfast, you will travel along adventurous dirt climbing out of the Rift Valley to the endless plains of the Serengeti National Park. Arrive Serengeti in the mid-day and continue with sightseeing.  The Serengeti (siringeti) is a Maasai word means “endless plains” the grassland savannah stretching to the horizon. It is the oldest and the most famous park in Tanzania and the entire world home to the largest animal migration on the planet involve hundreds of thousands of animals wander to find fresh grass and water. Overnight in the campsite in the central or northern part of the park with breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 4:  Serengeti National Park

The entire day of your camping safari will be dedicated to game in the park. You will either go on a full day game drive or join early morning and afternoon drives in the Seronera area, depending on last night’s stop. Between March and May huge herds of wildebeests and zebras will be seen in the central area while calves and foals being born between January and March in Ndutu the southern part of the park. The Seronera area is also the best place to spot varied species of predators such as lions, cheetah, hyenas and leopards. Spend the night at campsite in the Seronera area with lunch, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Today you may opt to go for balloon safari or continue with the sunrise game drives in the Serengeti with a possibility to spot animals which you haven’t seen yet. Most predators tend to be more active in the morning before the temperature rise in the mid-day. Animals tend to be more active in the morning before the temperatures soar around midday. After lunch, departs Serengeti to the highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where you arrive in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 6:  Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

Early breakfast, depart with picnic lunch along the rough terrain down into the 600 meter deep crater. The slopes of the crater are covered with forest however the landscape changes to savannah with the occasional acacia tree as you approach the floor. The crater is home to a varied animals species and birds. If luck you will spot the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. You should also see warthogs, wildebeests, zebras, hippos and some of the more than 500 bird species of the area. After an entire morning of game viewing and a picnic lunch in the crater, you will leave Ngorongoro for the journey to back to Arusha

Group Tour Itinerary

 

Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire Park

We start our group tour  by leaving Arusha in the early morning to legendary Tarangire National Park which is famous for its herds of Elephants and ancient Baobab trees. This park is additionally well known for its high concentration of game and amazing bird life. Other animals to be spotted include leopards, giraffes, zebras, lions, etc. Continue with the group tour game drives until late afternoon then drive to Mto-wa-Mbu. In this park you are guaranteed to see leopards, giraffes, zebras, lions and many more. Dinner and Overnight in the provided options of lodge or campsite

 

Day 2: Lake Manyara Park

Early morning we proceed with our group tour into Lake Manyara Park for a full day game viewing. This park is extremely famous for its lush green foliage, varied bird life, tree-climbing lions, hippos, elephants, wildebeests, baboons, thousands of flamingos that inhabit the lake shore and lots of others. We’ve a picnic lunch and continue with the drive until late evening. Overnight and dinner at your camp or Lodge

 

Day 3: Group Tour in Serengeti Park

After breakfast, departs Lake Manyara with picnic lunch to Serengeti Park via Olduvai Gorge in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Spend a short time there learn about the skull of the earliest man on the planet. Enjoy your picnic lunch right here and after that continue to Serengeti National Park for the afternoon game drive. Serengeti offers the foremost enthralling game-viewing experience for the group tour in Africa: great herds of buffalo and wildebeests, groups of elephant and giraffes, eland, impala and Grant’s gazelle, lions, leopards and lots of others. Day 4: Serengeti Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Today after breakfast we shall go for a morning game drive in several areas of the park trying to find more animals like lions, leopards, cheetah, zebras, wildebeest, gazelles and herds of wildebeest. Mid day we return to the camp or lodge for lunch and our group safari will depart to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Dinner and Overnight in the provided accommodation option you have chosen.

 

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater

Today you will spend the last day of your group tour by conducting game drives inside the crater floor. The crater is a true life Eden, you’ll be amazed by its abundant wildlife that gets very near the vehicle. The crater floor supports over 25000 large mammals including the remaining Black Rhinos, Zebras, Gnus, Gazelles, Buffalos, Lions, Hippos, Elephants, Elands, Hyenas and variety of aquatic birds. We explore the crater till late afternoon and leave for Arusha.

Starting with a Lake Manyara National Park before spending two days in Serengeti experiencing the breathtaking wildebeest migration. Depends the months of the year you can either visit Ndutu area the southern Serengeti, Seronera the central Serengeti or western Serengeti. Selecting the right location will help you track the herds of the wildebeest easily. In the months of July and August where the herds are in northern Serengeti crossing Mara River and extra day will be require so instead of having five day you will have to have 6 days program.

A number of predators are also moving closely to the migration herds so at this time you can easily spot several prides of lions, hyenas, cheetah and many other chasing and killing. Serengeti Wildebeest Migration Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha – Lake Manyara
Drive from Arusha/Moshi town at 0830 hrs to Lake Manyara National Park for game drive. It’s 2-3 hrs approximated drive to Lake Manyara depending from which town a you starting your route. Lunch will be served at Manyara and later in the afternoon proceed for game drive. Dinner and overnight at Country Lodge Karatu or Bougainvillea Lodge

Day 2: Lake Manyara – Serengeti
In the early morning you will be leaving to Serengeti national park driving through the Ngorongoro Highland where you will enjoy the beautiful scenery of diverse landscapes covered by evergreen forest. Stop for some few minutes at the crater view point for a spectacular view of the crater. Proceed with game drive en – route to Serengeti national park where you will arrive in the afternoon. Since the main target of this tour is to see the Serengeti wildebeest migration, the area where you will stay conducting game drive will be chosen according to the location of the migration.

For example from December throughout March the game viewing activities will be based in Ndutu southern Serengeti Area where the great migration will be. From April to June we shall take you to the central or western Serengeti area since at that time the herds of migration will be situated there on their way to the north. Apart from spotting the migration herds our guide will also work hard to locate other animals such as lions, cheetah, leopard, hyena, a variety of antelopes and birds. Late afternoon hours you will drive to the camp for sun downer, shower, dinner and overnight.Optional accommodation ( Tanzania Bush camps, serengeti heritage camp, angani serengeti camp, serengeti osupuko camp or angata camp)

Day 3: Full day Wildebeest Migration Safari
Wake early in the morning to take a cup of coffee or tea then depart for the game drive to enjoy the natural wonders of the Serengeti national park. Serengeti is the  best leading park in Tanzania with the highest population of wildlife which count to about 1,300,000 wildebeests, 250,000 Thomson’s gazelles, 200,000 zebras, 70,000 impalas, 50,000 topis, 30,000 grants gazelles, 10,000 elands, and many antelopes and hundreds of predators. Evening drive back to the camp for hot shower dinner and overnight. Day 4: Serengeti – Ngorongoro CA
Early morning game drive in Serengeti national park then back to the camp /lodge for hot lunch. In the afternoon depart to Ngorongoro Conservation Area for dinner and overnight at the lodge. The lodge in Ngorongoro is situated at the crater rim so on your stay you will enjoy the panoramic view of the crater.. Dinner and overnight at Rhino Lodge

Day 5: Ngorongoro crater tour
After breakfast, you will descend to the crater floor with picnic lunch for a half day game drive. The journey down the crater takes about 45 minutes full of adventure. In this morning hours you it easy to spot lions hunting and hippos returning into the water after a whole night struggling for food. A part from hosting a significant number of animals the crater is also the world garden where you can find several species of wild flowers. Furthermore you will the natural crater with wonderful volcanic caldera and Lake Magadi with flamingos. When in the season, Ngorongoro Crater floor is flowered pink, red, and yellow especially in late May and early June. Also, Ngorongoro is where to find the black rhinos regularly inside the small forest. In the afternoon, you will ascend the crater to back to Arusha

Self Drive Tour Itinerary

 

Day 1: Arrive – Arusha Town

Arrive Kilimanjaro international Airport, met with our representative and transfer to our office in Arusha for signing the contract and drop all other required documents then handled the vehicle. Depends with the time you may opt to overnight in Arusha waiting for the next day.

Day 2: Self Drive Adventure Safari in Tarangire

Today you will start the self-drive adventure safari by driving to Tarangire National Park which is located an approximately 150 kilometers south west from Arusha town. There is a paved road from Arusha to Minjingu area and the remaining portion of about 30 kilometers from Minjingu to Tarangire is trypical rough road. While on the way you may enjoy to see the beautiful landscapes, the maasai steppe and some small maasai villages scattered along the road. You may arrive maasai people will also be seen stand alongside the road but you shouldn’t take them a picture until you ask for their permission. Arrive Tarangire for lunch then embark in the afternoon game drive till evening when you will drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Option Accommodation: Roika Tented Lodge, Lake Burunge Tented camp, Tarangire Osupuko Lodge.

Day 4: Self Drive Adventure Safari Lake Eyasi

Today you will drive for about 125 kilometers from Tarangire to the small town of Karatu via Mto wa Mbu. As you pass mto wa Mbu you may at the Lake Manyara view point which is located on rift valley escarpment. At this point you will enjoy the panoramic view of the Lake Manyara National Park and the Lake. From Karatu you will then follow the dirty road for about 72 kilometers towards Lake Eyasi area then the Yaeda valley which is the home to the Hadzabe and Datoga people.

The Hadzabe community live in a primitive ways of life and they depends of jungle fruits, honey and wild animals for their daily meals. The local Hadzabe guide, will take you to their homes and you will learn about their traditional ways of life. Furthermore you will go hunting with the Hadzabe men and enjoy the traditional dance with the Datoga tribe. In addition to this the Traditional barbeque (Goat Meat) will be prepared for you.

Day 5: Self Drive Adventure Safari Ngorongoro

Today you at morning hours you will continue with some cultural activities with the Hadzabe bushem. After taking lunch you will then depart to Karatu area where you will overstay.

Optional Lodge: Octagon Safari Lodge, Country Lodge Karatu, Bougainvillea Lodge.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater Tour

After breakfast leave the lodge for self-drive adventure safari to Ngorongoro crater drive through the natural and evergreen forest of the Ngorongoro highland. As you arrive descend 600m into this magnificent crater for a morning, half-day game drive. The crater is estimated to host about 30,000 animals including the remaining Tanzania’s black rhino. The common seen animals in Ngorongoro Crater include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. The crater is also host the largest population of predators which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. You will enjoy a picnic lunch in the crater and then ascend the crater rim back to Karatu.

Day 7 – 9: Self Drive Adventure Safari Serengeti

Today you will continue with the self-drive adventure safari to the world famous park “The Serengeti” via the Olduvai Gorge. After tour of Olduvai Gorge continue to Serengeti National Park and enjoying an exciting game drive along the way. Arrive Serengeti in the afternoon and continue with the game drive till evening. Continue with the game viewing for the next day in the Serengeti national park searching for the herds of the wildebeest migration. In addition to that you will have a high chance to see lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and many other wild animals including hippo, zebra, wildebeest, cheetah, hyena, Thomson gazelle, just to mention a few.

Note: For the month of July and August you will have to spend one night at in Central Serengeti and 2 nights in northern Serengeti

Day 10: Serengeti to Karatu  

Enjoy leisure breakfast at the lodge, then depart for game drive with packed lunch en-route to Karatu. You may also opt to stop in one of the Maasai boma located in Ngorongoro Conservation area for a cultural tour. Continue with the journey and arrive Karatu in the late afternoon hours for leisure stay, dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Karatu Town – Lake Manyara – Arusha Town

After breakfast you will check-out and take off with a picnic lunch to enjoy along the drive to Lake Manyara National Park. This lake is famous for its green scenery, varied bird life, tree-climbing lion, hippo, baboon and many more wild animals. Later in the afternoon you will drive to Arusha Town then to the airport for your onward flight back home. You will meet our representative at the office and drive with him to the airport where you will handle the vehicle back to him.

Serengeti Vacation Itinerary

 

Day 1: Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where our representative will meet and greet you then transfer to Arusha City. Located at the base of the Tanzania second tallest mountain “Mount Meru” Arusha is the largest city near to the Tanzania northern national parks the Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Lake Manyara National Park, Olduvai Gorge, Tarangire National Park, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Arusha National Park. Right at your lodge your guide will give you a brief about your next day wildlife Safari. Overnight at Zawadi House

 

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

Start your Serengeti vacation by heading to Tarangire National Park with your professional driver guide. The Tarangire National Park is the third largest national park in Tanzania and home to large population of elephant. Giant baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. Animals congregate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent source of water in the area. This park has a huge a diversity of wildlife including lion, leopard, cheetah, and up to six thousand elephant. Diner and overnight at Sangaiwe Tented Camp or other property of the same standards.

 

Day 3: Tarangire – Lake Manyara National Park

Breakfast; proceed with the serengeti vacation to Lake Manyara National Park. The Lake Manyara is stretches from the base of the dramatic Rift Valley escarpment to the soda lake which is one of the most beautiful places in Africa. At the park main entrance gate you will experience a green vegetation consist of the ground water forest, which provide refuge to troops of baboons and blue monkeys. Further to the south the forest disappear to woodland, grassland, swamps and beyond, the soda lake itself where over 350 species of birds, including the lively flamingo, pelican, sacred ibis, grebe and stork can be viewed (a bird watchers’ paradise). Further southern there several hot springs famously called Maji Moto. These hot springs reveal the ongoing active geological processes which take place beneath the ground. Lake Manyara national park is renowned for its abundant buffalo, elephant, giraffe, impala, hippos, as well as a great variety of smaller animals. In addition to that, this park is the best place to spot the elusive tree climbing lions. Late afternoon you will be driven to Karatu Village. Diner and overnight at Bougainvillea Lodge.

 

Day 4: Serengeti Vacation

Today you just after breakfast you shall continue with the tour to Serengeti National Park. Driving through Ngorongoro Highlands and stopping off to visit the Olduvai Museum. Arrive at Seronera Area for picnic lunch. Afternoon game drive in central Serengeti National Park, probably the greatest park on earth. This park, undoubtedly the most famous in the world, covers over 14 000 sq. km and offers amongest many other things the biggest concentration of big cats in the world (Cheetahs, Lions, Leopards, Wild cats…). Many different landscapes can be found in the Serengeti: Savannah with the big plains to the south, hills & woods to the west, the kopjes area to the east, and bush land to the north. Important rivers (Seronera, Banagi, Grumeti ) also run through the park. Many different species of mammals can be spotted during game drives, elephant, buffalo, giraffes, antelopes… hippo and crocodile can also be found. Diner and overnight Serengeti Tortilis Camp or similar.

 

Day 5: Serengeti Vacation

Very early Morning and evening game drives through the Serengeti plains. Serengeti is perhaps the most impressive wildlife sanctuary in the world. These vast, seemingly unending plains are inhabited during the migration by enormous herds of wildebeest and zebra. There is a great diversity of wildlife including lion, leopard, cheetah, impala, buffalo, birds and up to ten thousand elephant. Diner and overnight at Serengeti Tortilis Tented Camp.

 

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater

Morning departure to Ngorongoro Crater. Descend into the 100-square-mile Ngorongoro Crater to view game on the vast grasslands of the crater floor. The bottom of the crater dotted with watering-holes, shelters almost 30 000 animals in an area naturally enclosed by the slopes of the volcano. You will find the Big Five lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard among others. Ngorongoro crater is the largest unbroken caldera in the world and surrounded by very steep walls rising 610 meter from the floor, it is considered to be one of the Wonders of the Natural World and is a veritable haven for wildlife. Spectacular animal life can be found throughout the year due to the permanent availability of grass and water. Picnic lunch, overnight at Country Lodge Karatu.

 

Day 7: To Kilimanjaro Internal Airport or to Zanzibar Island

After breakfast at the lodge, drive to Mto wa Mbu for cultural visit to the local women and learn how they do their daily activities including farming, small women financing groups, you will have local lunch with the local women to taste the local African food. After lunch transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back home.

This tour can be extended to “The Spice Island of Zanzibar”.
