This day’s trek is relatively short, taking about 3 to 4 hours to reach the Big Tree Camp, also known as Mti Mkubwa, located at 2,780 meters (9,120 feet). Day 2: To Shira 1 Camp

After about 6 to 8 hours, the crater rim comes into view, and with it the first blush of dawn. Stella Point, at 5,756 meters (18,885 feet), offers a brief respite before the final hour-long push to Uhuru Peak.

At the summit, emotions run high as climbers embrace, take photos, and generally bask in the glory of their accomplishment — standing atop the highest point in Africa. After savoring the moment, it’s time for the descent, first back to Barafu Camp for rest and then continuing down to Mweka Camp at 3,100 meters (10,170 feet). This long day of climbing and descending is exhausting but rewarding beyond measure.

Day 8: Descending to Mweka Gate

The final day of the trek is a descent of 3 to 4 hours through lush forest to Mweka Gate at 1,640 meters (5,380 feet). Helichrysums and other hardy alpine plants give way to the dense greenery of the rainforest. Reaching the gate, a sense of extraordinary achievement pervades as trekkers reflect on the magnitude of what they’ve experienced. Day 1:  Arusha / JRO / Moshi to Mkomazi National Park

Today early morning we will pick you up from the hotel in Arusha or Moshi and drive to Mkomazi national park with picnic lunch. As we arrive we will continue with game drives into different areas of the park exploring its beauty and wilderness.  Mkomazi Park shares its ecosystem with Tsavo national park which forms the largest and important ecosystem on Earth. Animals tend to migrate between the two parks at different season of the year triggered by the rainfalls and draught. The river umber which flows into the park is the main source of water for the animals in dry season. Game viewing experience in this season is easy and spectacular as it done along the river banks where animal use to graze. It is common to see herds of animals move down and up from the river to drink. However during wet season game viewing experience is still good as the park receives little rainfalls which don’t allow grass to grow taller to the extent of blocking the sightings. Common animals that you can see during game drives in Mkomazi safari include buffalos, eland, zebra, elephant, hartebeest and more.  Predators such as lions, hyenas, leopard and cheetah can also be spotted hunting or lying under shade during the day as the temperature is high. 3 Days Mikumi and Udzungwa Safari Itinerary

 

Day 1: Dar es Salaam – Mikumi National Park

Pick up from hotel in Dar es Salaam or at the airport and continue with the journey to Mikumi national park via Morogoro town. As you arrive in Mikumi you can stop for picnic lunch and continue with afternoon game drive. Mikumi National Park is among the most known park in Tanzania with area of about 3,230 square kilometers. While on game drives in this beautiful park you can spot a variety of animals such as elephants, giraffes buffaloes, zebras, elands, greater Kudu, wildebeest, roan and sable antelope. Mikumi is also known for having the amazing tree climbing lions which can also be seen in park like Lake Manyara and Serengeti. Other predators which can be seen in Mikumi are hyena, leopard, wild hunting dogs and black-backed jackal.  More than 300 species of birds have been recorded here including Eurasian migrants such as red billed ox pecker, marabou stork and lilac breasted roller.

Day 2: Climbing Udzungwa Mountains

After breakfast continue with your “Mikumi and Udzungwa Safari” by departing to Udzungwa Mountains national park the journey of about 90 kilometers through the Kilombero valley.

The Udzungwa Mountains are part of the Eastern Arc mountain chain, a centre of global importance for biodiversity and endemism. Covering the area of about about 1990 sq.kms and it is the first terrestrial National park in Tanzania with biologically diverse forest where approximately 20 – 30% out of 200 animals and plant species that grow here not found anywhere in the world. It is indeed one of the most important areas in Africa for primate diversity and conservation, with two endemic monkeys (Udzungwa red colobus Procolobus gordonorum and Sanje mangabey Cercocebus [galeritus] sanjei), and the near-endemic kipunji monkey Rungwecebus kipunji, a new genus and species discovered in 2004 and found in Udzungwa and Southern Highlands.

This park is the best for hiking with beautiful scenery and outstanding waterfalls. It is also among the top ten forests for bird conservation in Africa.  A part from primates there are other animals that can be found in Udzungwa are water buffalo, elephants, and full of reptiles and snakes and more.

Later in the afternoon drive back to Mikumi for dinner and overnight at Camp Bastian.

 

Day 3: Mikumi National Park – Dar es Salaam

After breakfast, depart for a morning game drives of the park with picnic lunch, early afternoon drive to Dar es Salaam.

Day 1: Arrival and Tarangire National Park

Our 5 days camping Tanzania safari begins with the excitement of anticipation, as we arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where the spirit of adventure is palpable. After a warm welcome, we embark on a short journey to Tarangire National Park, renowned for its high density of elephants and baobab trees. As we set off on our first game drive, the vastness of the African savannah unfolds before us.

The park is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, with large herds of elephants gracefully moving across the landscape, and majestic baobabs standing sentinel over the plains. Tarangire is also home to buffaloes, lions, giraffes, and a variety of antelopes, each contributing to the rich tapestry of life here and make it to a fine destination for camping safaris in Tanzania. As the sun sets, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink, we head to our campsite.

Day 2 & 3: Camping Tanzania Safari in The Endless Plains of Serengeti

With the break of dawn, we pack up camp and set out for the fabled Serengeti National Park, a name that resonates with the essence of the wild. The drive to Serengeti itself is an adventure, as we traverse diverse landscapes and observe the changing flora and fauna.

Upon arrival, we are greeted by the endless plains that have made Serengeti synonymous with camping safari. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to the Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest and zebras traverse its plains in search of fresh grazing. Even outside the migration period, the Serengeti teems with wildlife, including the ‘Big Five’ – lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinos.

Day 4: Camping Tanzania Safari in Ngorongoro Crater

The Tsavorite garnet deposit at Lemshuku was discovered in 1967 by a British Gemologist named Campbell Bridges whose later in 1970 he moved to Kenya and discovered another deposit of the same stones at Tsavo National Park. A part from exploring these green stones this Tanzania geological Tour will offers you a chance to experience the natural habitats and the few species of antelopes which found in the area.

Green Tsavorite garnet at Lemshuku can be found from the primary deposit which formed along the sides of the hills. The Tsavorite garnets mineralizations are formed along the quartz bearing veins and gashes which cross metasomatized vanadian graphitic gneiss. From here we will continue with Our Tanzania geological tour of Tsavorite garnet down to the secondary deposits site. This placer deposit of Tsavorite garnet is in the lower land located at the base of the hills. Many artisanal miners made shallow pits to layers of gravels deposited by weathering and erosion many years. Very fines pieces of Tsavorite garnet up to 20 grams in size have recorded to be obtained here.

The Tsavorite garnets are only found in three countries Tanzania, Kenya and Madagascar. However the deposit for commercial mining is founds in Tanzania and Kenya.

Tanzania Geological Tour Itinerary

Our Tanzania geological tour start at 08:30 am by picking you up from your hotel in Arusha at and depart to for the journey to Lemshuku area along Arusha Kiteto Road. Driving through the rough terrain passing through the maasai villages we will finally arrive at Komolo village which is located at the base of the Laletema Hills range. From Komolo we will leave the main road following the narrow path for 15 km toward North East direction through the savannah bush lands.  Along the way you can see the Maasai settlements and some some wild animals such a variety of antelopes.

 

After 30 minutes from Komolo we arrive at Lemshuku to continue with our Tanzania Geological Tour to experience Tsavorite garnet minerals. Our first stop will be to the mining site along the hill sides. Our host will welcome us to his mining concession for short briefing and later enter into the mine pit for further exploration where you will find people at work. This will be best opportunity to learn about the formation of these precious stones by studying different rocks found along the pit.

 

From the pit we will stop for about 30 minutes to enjoy the barbeque lunch in the middle of the jungle. After lunch we will continue with our Tanzania geological Tour down the hill to placer deposit site. In this area we will see many artisanal miners digging shallow pits to the layers of gravels where the green stones found. If lucky we can also see some rough and fine pieces of Tsavorite garnet.

 

After spending time in Lemshuku Tsavorite Mine area we shall leave the area back to Arusha town to your hotel which will be the end of our Tanzania geological tour of Tsavorite garnet.
